We are super-excited that Nathanael Tan has been awarded a competitive Lady Emily Smyth Studentship from the Bristol Centre for Agricultural Innovation to join our lab for a 1-year Masters by Research project in the 2022/23 academic year. Nat holds a first-class honours MEng degree from Imperial College where he worked with Naomi Nakayama on the mechanical properties of flax fibres. As an MRes student in our lab, he will use Janine’s hail simulator to investigate the damage resistance of crop plants in response to impacts from hail storms. Nat is the second BCAI LES scholar to join our lab, after Oona held this award in the 2020/21 academic year. Massive congratulations – we can’t wait to work with you!
