With climate change accelerating, hailstorms become increasingly frequent, violent, and damaging. We offer a 4-year fully funded PhD project to investigate the biomechanical and physiological underpinnings of hail damage in crop plants – with the aim to help improving the hail resistance of crops and provide food security and agroeconomic stability for future generations. Applicants will compete for one of 34 available studentships offered under the BBSRC SWBio DTP studentship scheme. Successful applicants will receive university fees, an attractive stipend, and additional funds for research and training costs. The scheme will fund up to 30% international applicants. Details here or on the SWBio website.
